Geoff Guthrie

I try to promote musical growth in students with learning music of their choice. No “Mary had a little Lamb” stuff here! Students will be introduced to music reading, theory, chords, scales, arpeggios and technique. I cover all styles of playing. I have and continue to maintain 40-50 students a week with a long waiting list. Many of the local musicians you see playing around town have been students of mine. When a local musician signs up I feel proud because they are willing to try new things and rethink their approach…I try hard to never disappoint anyone.

I have been teaching for 15 years and playing for 25. I started playing when I was 11. Influenced musically since birth, both of my brothers played professionally before I was around and helped me along in my early days. I also studied classical guitar with Keith Gehle and Alan Knight. Furthermore, I have taken several college level music courses to further my education and understanding of music.

So much of my business has been built on referrals that I feel I am on the right track. Thanks to everyone who has helped and inspired me along the way.

Doug Oxford

Doug Oxford has worked with prominent Michigan based Christian bands such as Armada, Ed Englerth's Linear Action Band, Exit-Up and Xalt. In that time he has had the privilege of sharing the stage with David and the Giants, Bash-n the code, Margaret Becker, Barren Cross and Whitecross.

After leaving Armada in 1990, Doug pursued his solo career. Along with his band, The Yearning, he has performed in churches and Christian clubs all over Michigan. In that time he has had the opportunity to share the stage with Steve Wiggins (of Big Tent Revival), Greg X. Volz (formerly of Petra) and once again Whitecross.

Throughout most of 1998 and 1999, with his band, River Avenue, Doug ventured into new Christian coffeehouses with a new style approach that brought to the forefront the more "folksy" songs that he has just touched on in the past. River Avenue consisted of Honza Hannig on the cello, Lupe Anzaldua on congas, Drew Nelson on Djembe and guitar, with Doug playing guitar.
River Avenue came to and end with a recent move, by Doug, to South Carolina and then finally Augusta, Georgia (where he now resides).

Doug has been one of the worship leaders for the Lansing Vineyard Christian Fellowship in Michigan and was a youth minister at the same fellowship. In that time, Doug has played in a worship team with VMG songwriter/worship leader Dave Chumchal and has trained to be a worship pastor under VMG and CMG songwriter/worship leader Dan Wilt. He has also had opportunity to lead and teach about worship in different churches in the state of Michigan.

It is his hope to one day reform a band with a blend of "The Yearning" and "River Avenue", with musicians from that region.

While in Michigan, Doug also taught both Private Guitar and Private Voice lessons at his own home at and White Brother's String Shop (Okemos, Michigan). He now teaches guitar full time at Center Stage Music, Augusta Georgia's premier music store.
